How To Choose The Right Golf Glove

Golf

Many players of various levels get a golf glove because it’s the “done thing”, but getting the right glove can add levels to your game.

Why Do I Need a Golf Glove?

Using a golf glove helps to improve grip. When engaging a full golf swing at high velocity, it’s important that your swing is perfect and you control every element, from stance to follow through - which is why golf shoes and golf gloves help give this control. A golf glove also helps protect your hand from calluses and wear when gripping a club tightly.

From palm grip to finger positioning, a golf glove will help add precision and consistency when swinging at high velocity. Usually, players will wear a golf glove when using clubs with a full swing, such as drivers, woods, long irons. The glove is then removed for shorter irons or putting when a golfer needs more “feel” on a shot.

What Hand Do I Wear My Golf Glove On?

Typically, players wear their golf glove on the weaker hand, so for example a right handed golfer will wear it on their left hand and a left handed player wears on their right hand.

What Size of Golf Glove Should I Get?

Wearing a golf glove should feel like a second skin over your hand; it should feel seamless with no excess material around the fingers or across the palm. Using a glove that is too big will negatively affect your grip and control, causing the club to slip even slightly in the hand. That can make a big difference in the accuracy of your shot. A golf glove should feel comfortable, with the velcro reaching about 75% of the way across the fastener. If it closes over all the way, this means the glove is likely too big.

  • Measure your hand from the top of your index finger to the first crease on your wrist, closes to the palm, to determine the best length for your glove
  • Measure around your palm around the knuckles to find the circumference for your glove

Does The Type of Golf Glove I Get Depend on the Weather?

Some golf gloves will be designed specifically for bad weather. Scotland is the home of golf, but it’s also home of cold and wet weather most of the year. Specially designed winter golf gloves are thicker for increased insulation, and made from more quick dry materials. We have a range of rain golf gloves (with increased protection for damp conditions) and all weather golf gloves which can also provide added warmth in colder months.
