Finding your pockets are getting rather full on the way to the gym? Got a brand new gym bag and don’t know what to fill it with? While not always needed depending on how much you take, gym bags are a great way to carry everything you need from water bottles to post-workout bars and gels. Depending on what kind of workout you are doing, you will need different items.
There is also not one ‘perfect’ sized gym bag. The perfect gym bag holds whatever you’re taking without being too obstructive. to your workout and other people around you. If you currently take a small backpack but find you are still stuffing your pockets with extra accessories, you might want to go a bit larger. If you have a large duffle gym bag that just contains headphones and a water bottle, chances are you can downsize your bag a fair amount and still fit everything you need inside.
Our Gym Bag Essentials:

1. Water Bottle
Not only is it good to hydrate throughout the day before hitting the gym, but it’s a no-brainer that staying hydrated throughout your workout is key for performance. Once you’ve finished bicep curling or dumbbell pressing, a quick sip of water or juice can help you feel refreshed for the next set.
Explore our range of water bottles perfect for keeping close by during your workout!
2. Gym Gloves
You might have been told that gym gloves are bad for developing your grip and that lifting weights without them is much better as it can develop your grip strength. While this is true to some degree, gym gloves can be very useful when performing movements such as the pull-up.
When performing pull-ups without gloves, the sweat on your hands or even the lack of grip on some bars, can make you lose grip and slide off the bar, causing you to reset and perform another few of your remaining reps. However, if you can perform a larger number of pull-ups in a row without interruption or falling off (thanks to the grip on some gym gloves), that is much better than performing 2, falling off, another 2, falling off, another 3 falling off as your muscles will be under more constant tension.
Explore our range of gym gloves to never lose grip on the bar!
3. Towel
Towels aren’t just useful for those who swim as part of their weekly workout, they can help dry off a piece of equipment if you’ve left some perspiration on the bench or bar.
If you’re trying to hit a personal best on the treadmill and work up a sweat, having a towel nearby can really help cool you down as you break out a sweat.
Explore our range of gym towels at Greaves to help cool you down and leave equipment the way you would want to find it yourself.
4. Headphones
Having your own selection of music during a workout can really make all the difference as you listen to your favourite music to help you push to the end. Headphones are also a great way of blocking out those around you. When running or in the gym, focus on yourself instead of others around you (who we can promise are not looking at you), and make sure you are working at the right level for you during that workout.
Our range of headphones are great for a range of sports including running, workouts or even swimming with our waterproof range from Shockz.
5. Bars and Gels
Post-workout snacks are great for muscle repair and general recovery and if it’s going to be a while before you can get home and get a proper post-workout meal, having some protein bars or electrolyte gels in your bag are a great way to get a top up of energy when your body needs it most.Explore our nutrition gels and replenish your energy after leaving it all out on the treadmill.
