The Commonwealth Games 2022
Starting on Thursday the 28th of July, The Commonwealth Games 2022 will feature athletes from 54 sovereign countries and 18 “territories” that will compete under their own flag - making up the Commonwealth. There have been 63 iterations of the Commonwealth Games, over which over 10,300 medals have been given out. Taking place in Birmingham 2022, these commonwealth games will feature 25 sports sections, each with their individual classifications.

Sports at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022
The Commonwealth Games 2022 will feature countless events across many different sports and disciplines:
Athletics
Always some of the most popular events at any Commonwealth Games or Olympic Games, the track is a buzz of excitement, with 59 medal events to be won across the track and field. Birmingham 2022 will feature many athletics and para athletics events, ranging from the explosive 100m sprint races to the endurance range of the marathon.
From the track, to the field, Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022 with feature the javelin, discus throwing, and the shot put plus much more. Athletics events will also showcase the excitement of the long jump, high jump, pole vault amongst other sports.

Swimming
Physical and high paced, the swimming and para swimming events at Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022 will feature events using 4 strokes:
- Freestyle
- Breaststroke
- Butterfly
- Backstroke
There will also be “medley” events which will feature a variety of all 4 swimming strokes. From 50m to 1500m, with relay events included, there will be plenty of athletes hoping to make a splash in the pool.

Racket Sports
One of the fastest racket sports in the world, badminton is always an exciting. During the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, there will be mixed doubles, men’s singles & doubles, and women’s singles & doubles.
Squash at the Games will feature 5 gold medal events, including men’s and women’s doubles play, mixed pairs, and men’s and women’s singles.

Hockey
Taking place at The University of Birmingham for the Commonwealth Games, the hockey events will see medals up for grabs for both men’s teams and women’s teams. Fast paced, action packed, with a fine balance of skill, speed, and strength, hockey has been an exciting addition to the Commonwealth Games programme since 1998.
