Celebrating their foundation as a club, Nike have released a special edition anniversary kit to mark 120 years of Atletico Madrid. This stunning top pays homage to the first kits & colours the club ever used, along with the initial club crest.

Atletico Madrid were founded on the 26th of April 1903 as Athletic Club Sucursal de Madrid by 3 Basque students living in Madrid as a youth branch of their local team, Athletic Bilbao. The Colchoneros have won 11 La Liga titles, 10 Copa del Rey trophies, 3 Europa Leagues and the UEFA Cup Winners Cup in their wonderful history to date.
Don’t Atletico Madrid Wear Red & White?
The iconic red & white Atletico Madrid home kits were brought into use in 1911, however the first 8 years of the club were played wearing blue and white. It is rumoured the switch to red and white was made because it was the cheapest to make, the same combination used to make ticking for mattresses. The unused material was then easily made into football shirts. Might explain why Atleti’s nickname is Los Colchoneros (the Mattress Makers)....

The 120th Anniversary kit will be worn in the La Liga match at home to Mallorca on the 26th of April 2023, 120 years to the day the team first played.
