Masters Tournament: Who’s There and What Will They Wear?

With the Masters 2019 fast approaching, golf fans everywhere are speculating who will be attending the annual tournament. Arguably one of the biggest golf tournaments in the world, if not the biggest, the 2019 Masters Tournament will be held in Augusta, Georgia in the United States this year, in what will be the 83rd edition of the prestigious tournament.

Our team here at Greaves Sports have put together a list of 5 pro golfers of different nationalities that we can expect to take to the course on April 11th, so let’s find out who’s there and what will they wear.

#1 Justin Rose

    • Full Name: Justin Peter Rose
    • Born: 30/07/80
    • Birthplace: Johannesburg, South Africa
    • Nationality: English
    • Professional Wins: 24
  • Current Official World Golf Ranking: #1

It makes sense to start with the current world number 1, Justin Rose. Rose is a serial winner and has recently overtaken golfing legend Nick Faldo as the Englishman (via South Africa) with the most PGA Tour victories.

He recently signed a multi-year golf club deal with Japanese luxury equipment brand Honma, leaving behind his 20-year relationship with TaylorMade. Rose has switched allegiances in the clothing department too, moving from Adidas to New York-based American brand, Bonobos.

#2 Dustin Johnson

    • Full Name: Dustin Hunter Johnson
    • Nickname: DJ
    • Born: 22/06/84
    • Birthplace: Columbia, South Carolina, USA
    • Nationality: American
    • Professional Wins: 22
  • Current Official World Golf Ranking: #2

Dustin Johnson is considered one of the most athletic golfers around, and the former world golf number 1 is always among the top contenders at major golfing tournaments. DJ is known for his distinctive swing and powerful style of play, so what golf equipment does he use to achieve his success?

You’ll find him using a variety of clubs from TaylorMade, while German sportswear giants Adidas take care of all his clothing needs.

#3 Rory McIlroy

    • Full Name: Rory McIlroy
    • Nickname: Wee-Mac
    • Born: 04/05/89
    • Birthplace: Holywood, County Down, Northern Ireland
    • Nationality: Northern Irish
    • Professional Wins: 23
  • Current Official World Golf Ranking: #6

Another former world golf number 1, Rory McIlroy held the #1 spot for 95 weeks. He’s a four-time major tournament champion, and one of only three other golfers to win 3 majors by the age of 25, the other three being Jack Nicklaus, Jordan Spieth and Tiger Woods.

McIlroy also took over from Tiger Woods as the face of the EA Sports PGA Tour Golf games franchise, while his other sponsors include TaylorMade clubs and Nike clothing.

#4 Jon Rahm

    • Full Name: Jon Rahm Rodríguez
    • Born: 10/11/94
    • Birthplace: Barrika, Basque Country, Spain
    • Nationality: Spanish
    • Professional Wins: 6
  • Current Official World Golf Ranking: #8

Rahm recently swapped places with Rory McIlroy from 6th to 8th place in the official world rankings, though he has already reached the heady heights of world number 2 so early on in his career. This promising professional golfer is set to achieve big things, Rahm is already the current record holder for being the number one ranked amateur in the world for the longest period of time, sitting at the top for 60 weeks.

Jon is another man who relies on the quality of clubs from TaylorMade, while he relies on Adidas to make sure he looks good and is kept cool and comfortable on the course.

#5 Jason Day

    • Full Name: Jason Day
    • Nickname: Jaydee
    • Born: 12/11/87
    • Birthplace: Beaudesert, Queensland, Australia
    • Nationality: Australian
    • Professional Wins: 16
  • Current Official World Golf Ranking: #11

The former world number 1 had a tough start to life, growing up his family was poor, and Day’s first golf club was actually a 3-wood that his father retrieved from a dump site. This set a precedent for a professional career in golf, and Jaydee is still the youngest ever Nationwide Tour winner to this day, triumphing in the tour at the age of 19.

Jason is sponsored by Nike who kits out his clothing and accessories, while Day is another golfer who puts his trust in TaylorMade and their excellent range of clubs.

Ones to Watch

So how about pro golfers that we should keep an eye on that lie outside of the current top 10? We’ve picked two wildcards that are worth their salt on any golf course, listing their stats as well as the specific gear and clubs they’ll be competing with.

Jordan Spieth

    • Full Name: Jordan Alexander Spieth
    • Born: 27/07/93
    • Birthplace: Dallas, Texas, USA
    • Nationality: American
    • Professional Wins: 14
  • Current Official World Golf Ranking: #25

This three-time major tournament winner might have slipped down the rankings of late, but don’t underestimate this former world number 1. Despite his tender years, Spieth has already represented America in two President Cups and two Ryder Cups.

As well as a major endorsement with soft drinks giant Coca-Cola, Jordan is also sponsored by American brand Under Armour, they’ll take care of all of his clothing and accessories until 2025, while he trusts in Titleist to take care of his clubs.

Matt Wallace

    • Full Name: Matthew Wallace
    • Born: 12/04/90
    • Birthplace: Hillingdon, London, England
    • Nationality: English
    • Professional Wins: 10
  • Current Official World Golf Ranking: #35

Another young golfer and relative newcomer to the sport, Matt Wallace is certainly one to keep an eye on at the Masters Tournament. The winner of four European Tours, Wallace will be looking to take his continental success overseas with a good showing in Augusta this year.

He opts for J.Lindeberg for all of his golf clothing needs, while he relies on Ping to make sure he’s prepared for anything on the course with a range of high-quality golf clubs to pick from.
