A softly cushioned neutral trainer with an ultra-smooth heel-toe transition, the latest version has a slightly tweaked heel unit designed to better absorb impact shock. The segmented heel gives way to an unstructured midfoot and a forefoot that feels good at all speeds. It maintains the snug, glove-like fit of previous incarnations, even though it has an abundance of overlay. It accommodates a foot of average width/volume, but feels snug throughout while doing so. Some testers made use of the standard eyelets to customize their lacing to relieve pressure on the top of their feet. But the minimal midfoot shank and mid-to-low arch make the Response Cushion a sketchy choice for overpronators of any degree. Durability will be affected by the mid-grade cushioning materials, but the Response Cushion's first-feel is similar to its more expensive stable mates.
